Här kan du förbereda dig inför workshopen som hålls på engelska. Workshopen är en del av vernisssagen och det går naturligtvis bra att bara titta på om man vill det.
Kolam drawings are done mostly on thresholds of houses, The most complex in design and symbolism Kolam can be found in the state of Kerala.
Kolam is drawn with dry rice flour. They generally consist of geometric patterns whose structure is created with dots. Lines are drawn with rice flour, that either link the dots or then flow around them. They are drawn everyday on the thresholds of homes, by the womenfolk. Kolam’s are supposed to be done before sunrise and on ground that has been purified with a mixture of cow dung (Hindu reference) and water.
The patterns can relate to the following:
-Natural phenonema such as eclipses, lunar and solar cycles, stars, solstices etc.
-Elements of the landscape such as rivers, hills, plants such as coconuts, animals
such as cows and snakes.
-Supernatural aspects of life such as ancestors and spirits

FLOOR ART (VRATA)
Ritual floor art practices in India are vratas. Vratas (also called bratas), are observances practiced by women, and they are expressed differently through various forms across India.
‘Vrata’ in Sanskrit means vow, devotion or resolve. Theyrefer to a practice
involving personal prayer, chanting, silent meditation, reading spiritual texts or a social gathering with family and friends.
The motivations to perform a vrata are varied and include wishes for success, happiness or fertility, or for warding of danger or negative forces. A large repository of symbols is drawn upon in creating the vratas, mostly elemental abstractions that are ethnologically, culturally and historically related to their specific contexts, and often passed down through generations.
